Bills on Family Leave Study and Salary History Emerge from 2018 Session

The following employment related bills made it out of the 2018 Hawaii State Legislative Session and have been submitted to the Governor for final signature:

SB2990 Relating to Family Leave directs the legislative reference bureau to conduct and complete a cost analysis on various family leave models by September 1, 2019. Discussion on mandatory paid leave will likely continue after the analysis has been conducted.

SB2351 Relating to Equal Pay amends HRS Chapter 378 to prohibit employers from inquiring about an applicant’s salary history, verbally or in writing, from the applicant or as part of the background check process. Employers are also prohibited from relying on the salary history of an applicant in determining compensation for an applicant. This law applies to both internal and external applicants.
