HR Checklist for 2020 HR Operating System
Check your 2020 operating system to be sure it reflects updated employment laws and guidelines, including the following:
- Effective January 1, 2020: Minimum wage for federal government contractor employees increased to $10.80 per hour.
Tipped employees performing work on or in connection with covered contracts generally must be paid a minimum cash wage of $7.55 an hour.

- Effective January 1, 2020: Standard mileage rates for business expenses is 57.5 cents (down from 58 cents in 2019) for every mile of business travel driven. See IRS notice 2020-05.
- 2020 disability compensation contribution withholding requirements and payment provisions for Temporary Disability Insurance (TDI), Workers’ Compensation (WC) and Prepaid Health Care (PHC) are as follows:
- Maximum weekly wage base:
- TDI: $1,119.44
- WC: $1,387.43
- Maximum weekly benefit amount:
- Maximum weekly deduction: $5.60
- Mandatory coverage under PHC: $876
