Anna Elento-Sneed to Speak at Feb. 21 Webinar on “Navigating Recent Executive Orders”
ES&A President Anna Elento-Sneed and HEC COO and General Counsel Michelle Kim Stone will discuss the latest executive orders issued by President Trump and their potential ripple effects on federal agencies such as the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), U.S. Department of Labor (USDOL), Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP), and Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS). The webinar, presented by the Hawaii Employers Council (HEC), will break down the key aspects of the orders, discussing how they could shape agency priorities, workplace policies, compliance obligations, and operational strategies, and offering practical steps companies can take to prepare for changes.
The dozens of executive orders terminated and issued so far by the Trump administration include the following which will significantly impact employers:
- Terminated:
- E.O. 11246, which required nondiscrimination in government employment, and in employment by government contractors and subcontractor
- E.O. 13583, which established a government-wide initiative promoting DEI in the federal workforce
- E.O. 13672, which prohibited discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity by contractors and subcontractors
- Issued:
- “Ending Radical and Wasteful Government DEI Programs and Preferencing,” which closed all DEIA offices and removed personnel involved in these initiatives, directed agencies to investigate federal contractors who have provided DEI training and grantees that received funding to advance DEI programs
- “Defending Women from Gender Ideology Extremism and Restoring Biological Truth to the Federal Government,” which mandates that federal agencies recognize only two biological sexes (male and female) as determined at birth; prohibits federal funding for programs/initiatives promoting gender identify ideologies
- “Reforming the Federal Hiring Process and Restoring Merit to Government Service,” which requires merit-based employment practices in federal agencies
