The April 20 broadcast of the public affairs show “Insights on PBS Hawaii” put the spotlight on “Who Will Hold the Bargaining Power?,” focusing on the collective bargaining process in Hawaii. Panelists included representatives of the State of Hawaii Organization of Police Officers (SHOPO) and of the University of Hawaii Professional Assembly (UHPA) as well as Anna Elento-Sneed. The panel discussed the unique environment Hawaii presents in terms of economic, political and cultural factors, as well as the challenge of so many concurrent, time-restricted negotiations. As of the live airing, 13 of 14 collective bargaining agreements (CBAs) due for negotiation with the State of Hawaii this legislative session were still on the table.
