Global Challenges for Employment

On October 16, 2017, employment lawyers from around the world gathered in Shanghai to discuss “The Impact of AI and Other Technological Advances on HR and Employment Law — A Global Perspective,” including issues such as:

• Increasing use of robotics and AI —how will it change what “human” work is?
• Engagement of workers through apps and the internet — how will the traditional employer compete with the gig economy?
• Privacy rights in the face of technological advances
• Cybersecurity and the importance of humans —what opportunities and conflicts should employers expect as information becomes increasingly global and increasingly valuable

The panel was part of the Employment Law Alliance (ELA) 2017 Annual Conference, October 15-17. ES&A President and ELA Board member Anna Elento-Sneed moderated the panel, which included Rahul Mattan of Trilegal (India), Ronald Mackay of Burness Paul (Scotland), and Lusanda Raphulu of Bowmans (South Africa).
